Ambient Gas

Ambient gas monitoring needs to produce data that is credible, traceable and appropriate to the decision being made. Equipment choice affects measurement range, resolution, response time, calibration frequency, data availability and the ability to compare results with licence conditions, national standards, project criteria or health-based guidelines. TES supplies practical monitoring technologies for industrial facilities, mines, landfills, wastewater plants, transport corridors, construction sites, urban environments, regional air quality networks and research programs.

When selecting ambient air monitoring equipment, start with the gases of interest and the monitoring objective. Programs may target pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, ozone, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methane, volatile organic compounds or other site-specific gases. A short-term investigation may call for a portable instrument with fast deployment and direct readings in the field. A compliance or baseline program may require continuous analysers, secure data capture, remote communications and a robust station capable of operating consistently over extended periods.

Consider the measurement method, expected concentration range, required averaging period and applicable method or guideline before specifying equipment. Some applications require indicative screening data to identify patterns, peak events or potential sources. Others require higher-performance continuous measurement, scheduled zero and span checks, documented calibration and data handling procedures that support formal reporting. Meteorological monitoring is often essential alongside gas measurement, providing wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity, rainfall and pressure data that help explain changing concentrations and pollutant dispersion.

TES can support standalone instruments, replacement sensors and complete integrated ambient monitoring systems. A typical station may combine gas analysers or sensors with meteorological instruments, a data logger, telemetry, power supply, mounting hardware, sample handling components and an enclosure designed for local conditions. The result is a more dependable path from field measurement to accessible data, review, reporting and informed action.

Field conditions matter. Remote sites, unreliable power, corrosive atmospheres, high temperatures, dust exposure, restricted access and limited maintenance windows can all affect monitoring performance. TES can assist with product selection, system configuration, installation, commissioning, calibration coordination, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrades. Early technical input helps avoid mismatched equipment, reduce downtime and improve data continuity across the life of the monitoring program.
